Virtually Touring Mildenhall

Posted on 27th March 2020

I’m sure it will come as little of a surprise to hear that our Museum is now closed for the foreseeable future, given the very serious risks associated with the Coronavirus epidemic. However, there is perhaps one good thing to come out of this, in that it has made us think hard about some of our policies. To give an example, we have for some time had a “virtual tour” of the Museum on our Website, and this will now also appear on our Facebook page.

As luck would have it, we had two interesting new displays to put up over the next few months, one involving the local Cricket Club and another in co-operation with our local Metal Detector Group. Again, we are looking at somehow making these available on-line.

We have always believed in supporting other museums and archives in the area where we can, and two opportunities occurred recently.

The Newmarket Local History Society held an exhibition on the bombing of Newmarket during the Second World War. We were able to loan photographs and other artefacts. Equally, the Lakenheath Heritage Group were given access to our archives to assist in recording fully the history of their village.
