Touch Down! The Kitchen Has Landed

Posted on 28th October 2021

After a long trajectory from lift off to final approach, the new kitchen module has arrived at The Long Shop Museum!

New kitchen at The Long Shop Museum

The prefabricated building came to rest on its footings in the museum garden at 18:50 on the 20th September. It is not expected to make a return journey. The crew now has a busy few months before them docking the module securely with the  main building and fitting out the inside with new equipment.

In order to locate the kitchen building on its new site it had to be lifted over the top of the museum’s Community Hub. A forty ton crane was required for the lift, and the sight of an 8 metre long building hovering over the museum was a little disconcerting. The kitchen will be complete and ready for use when the museum re-opens in March 2022, when we look forward to being able to offer our visitors some light refreshment during their trip back to Suffolk’s Industrial Revolution.
