Halesworth & District Museum are hoping to add eight early Mediaeval (often called Anglo-Saxon) silver coins to their outstanding collection at the museum. These will be the only examples they have from this period in history.

Eight Anglo-Saxon coins minted between 670 and 710AD, were discovered near Halesworth in 2011. They were in use at a time when England was not a unified country, but a collection of small, warring kingdoms, such as Kent, Essex and East Anglia, with major shifts in language, culture, and religion.
The British Museum has offered them to the Halesworth & District Museum for £1,610, and they have already raised some funds specifically for their purchase. As in the past, Halesworth & District Museum will be seeking grants from national and local sources. However, they will need to match such funds through public donations.

If you would like to be part of the team contributing to bringing the Anglo-Saxon coins home to Halesworth, you can donate by (i) sending a cheque to Halesworth & District Museum (The Railway Station, Station Road, Halesworth IP19 8BZ)
or (ii) bank transfer to Barclays Bank
