The Long Shop Museum

Discover 200 years of industrial innovation in Suffolk

Home » Museums » The Long Shop Museum

Discover 200 years of industrial innovation on the original site of the Richard Garrett Engineering Works, from the first production line to the first woman doctor.

The museum’s collections relate to the Garrett family, the draftsmen, engineers and other craftsmen who worked here; the engines, tools, vehicles and machines that were made here, and the impact of the Works on this small Suffolk town.

See the wide variety of products from steam engines and munitions to children’s toys and dry cleaning machines. Learn about the development of Leiston and its influence both locally and around the world.

There’s something for all ages and interests with hands on puzzles, WWII USAAF airfield and Theberton Zeppelin crash displays, Victorian well and fire engines plus gift shop, picnic garden and free parking.

For additional information about admission, opening hours, access, facilities and learning opportunities, please visit the museum website.
