493rd Bomb Group Museum

One of the last 8th Air Force heavy bomber stations to be occupied by the American 8th Army Air Force.

Home » Museums » 493rd Bomb Group Museum

Debach was one of the last 8th Air Force heavy bomber stations to be occupied by the American 8th Army Air Force.

Occupied by the 493rd Bomb Group in April 1944 (named “The Fighting 493rd, latterly known as “Heltons Hellcats”), Debach was the last Eighth Air Force heavy bomber station to become operational: the group flying its first mission on D-Day 6th June 1944.

Following extensive restoration and development, visitors can now view the restored Control Tower, a Home Front Museum and the Nissen Museum which features a display on typical “field” operating equipment, medical supplies, instruments and apparatus used in the 1940s.

For additional information about admission, opening hours, access, facilities and learning opportunities, please visit the museum website.
