More from Mildenhall

Posted on 18th December 2019

Visitor numbers seem to have held up, being about the same as last year. The exhibition in July and August, entitled “Search & Rescue” was one of the most successful we have had on loan from Epping Forest Museums. Young visitors were very keen on the small uniforms for dressing up, and one or two children had to be taken away almost in tears! Despite our Curator’s extended leave, we have managed to keep accessioning and other ongoing tasks pretty well up to date.

In July the Museum had a stand at Mildenhall’s annual “Lark In The Park” event, where a table of “What Is It?” artefacts attracted a lot of interest  and some hilarious identifications –a horse skull was named as that of a dog! (Presumably called Baskerville…..).

We recorded over 160 visitors to our stand….at least twenty of whom said “We’ve lived in Mildenhall for many years, and we’ve never been to the Museum. Where is it?”

(We have two large and very clear signs on the outside of the building-you can’t miss it!)

The Accreditation Renewal process is well in hand, and we should be submitting the necessary documents in the next week or so.
