Mid-Suffolk Light Railway needs a carriage to protect their Victorian coaches.
A great supporter of the railway has made an incredibly generous offer of £25,000 if the MSLR are able to match fund this amount. Thus, any contribution would be doubled and, if it can be gift aided, even better still. It’s also a brilliant opportunity to double the value of contributions for the MSLR’s essential carriage shed.

Mid-Suffolk Light Railway hope to start the second siding in January 2027, but funds must be in place soon so that TES2000 (MSLR’s track laying contractors), can be booked in time. With the match funding offer, this target date can be achieved.
A carriage shed is essential in protecting MSLR’s Victorian coaches. Now the Middy has a great chance to double the value of contributions for the shed.
MSLR has received a generous offer from a great supporter of the railway who has offered to match-fund any donation to the Dovebrook Carriage Shed Appeal up to a total of £25,000. Therefore, any contribution will be doubled and, if it can be gift aided, even better.
The anticipated total cost is £100,000. £50,000 for the first stage, installing a second siding including carrying out major earthworks, and then £50,000 for stage 2: building the actual shed.
The MSLR’s Victorian coaches are well over 100 years old and the oldest, and No.140 at 163 years, is thought to be the oldest Great Eastern Railway vehicle in regular use. Their latest acquisition, G.E.R. No.14 is believed to be the only existing vehicle ever to have run on the MSLR.
All are of mainly wooden construction and suffer constant damage from being stored outdoors. With no protection the Middy has to expend serious time and money to keep these unique vehicles operational. Match funding will speed the project to protect MSLR’s coaching stock.
