This summer holiday, immerse yourself in the joy of cooking, baking, and exploring the great outdoors at the Food Museum’s stunning 84-acre site in Suffolk. From 20 July, the museum is offering a range of engaging workshops and delicious treats for all ages.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings until 31 August, create your own flatbread pizzas from scratch and bake them in an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven, enjoying your creation for lunch. Then on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons, create delicious sweet or savoury scones using fresh produce from the museum’s walled garden. Workshops for ages 5+, booking essential.
Children aged 7-11 can join the museum’s summer cooking programme Thrills and Grills on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 30 July-27 August, where they’ll get to spend a full day learning to cook with a professional chef. Every day, they’ll learn chef skills, gather fresh produce from our site and prepare their own lunches and afternoon treats. Free places are available for children in receipt of free school meals.
Every day, there’s talks, tours and demonstrations at the museum, including seeing the 18th-century watermill in action making flour, trying your hand at farming, and meeting the museum’s Suffolk Punch horse and new foal. There’s also tempting tasters to try every day inspired by the new exhibition Forty Farms, which presents stunning photography of farms in Cumbria by British Life Photographer of the Year, Amy Bateman.
Throughout the summer, the museum’s café Feast will be serving up mouth-watering toasties and food-truck-style loaded fries with toppings such as bacon, cheese, hoisin and more. There’ll be a range of summer specials including couscous and salad bowls, along with refreshing local ice creams from Alder Tree.
