In January, Ipswich Maritime Trust was notified that the docks have been awarded Heritage Harbour status. This decision sets in motion the bigger plans that IMT have for the waterfront.
Heritage Harbour status is given by the National Working Group of Heritage Harbours, comprising the Maritime Heritage Trust, National Historic Ships UK, and Historic England. Ipswich has become the twelfth harbour to be given this status.
The Ipswich Maritime Trust will be working with local partners such as Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk Archives to make this new status the start of a programme of events and activities that celebrate and commemorate Ipswich’s maritime history.
