The museum has decided to open on Wednesday 11am-4pm (last entry 3.30pm) as well as on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays.
This is a trial over the summer holidays to see if it enables more families to visit the museums and encourage new volunteers to join the team who might have weekend commitments.
This is the first time this has been tried and if successful will become a regular feature.
The museum houses memorabilia from the old Royal Navy shore establishment HMS Ganges, including the ship’s figurehead, honours board and clocks. From 1905 until 1976 HMS Ganges was a training establishment for the Royal Navy. The museum houses almost 10,000 artefacts, many donated by Ex-Ganges boys or their families.
The museum is manned by volunteers, many of which are former Ganges boys.
