After having come into possession of the King’s Head Hotel in 2016, the Bungay Castle Trust has recently sold the premises to local businessman Paul Thornton. Paul Thornton is managing director of Beccles-based VC Cooke, a trade-based metal and recycling service for local businesses.
The sale of the premises has enabled the Castle Trust, in partnership with Bungay Museum, to explore the idea of not only developing the site of the 12th century Castle, but also to develop a new museum adjacent to this. The current intention of the museum’s current curator, Chris Reeve and the Castle Trust, is to apply for NLHF funding to support the employment of a paid curator for the site.
How this will all look is yet to be revealed, but these are certainly exciting times for the town – not least because the King’s Head Hotel has been vacant since its closure 10 years ago.
