
The Last Voyage of the Gloucester, 1682: A Royal Shipwreck
Prof Claire Jowitt will tell us about the recent discovery of the warship, The Gloucester. The ship, which ran aground off the Norfolk coast and sank in 1682, was carrying the Duke of York and Albany who later became King James II of England. Prof Jowitt will discuss some aspects of the mysteries behind the ship’s tragic end, its significance, and the work being done by the dedicated team at the University of East Anglia.
