Striking Editions: Lithographs from 1970–2000

When: March 11, 2023 to June 11, 2023 Time: 10:00am to 5:00pm Venue: Gainsborough’s House Address: 46 Gainsborough Street Sudbury Suffolk CO10 2EU Cost: Adult tickets: Full admission £15.90, House & Galleries only admission £11.35 Event category: Exhibition

Colourful lithographs by artists including Dia al-Azzawi, David Bowie, Uzo Egonu, Tracey Emin, Terry Frost, Alexis Hunter and Paula Rego.

Striking Editions celebrates the art of lithography through a diverse body of artists working in the second half of the twentieth century. Both figurative and abstract, these striking images reflect a vibrant period of experimentation with prints that explore the exciting possibilities of the medium. From the bold allegorical images of Paula Rego to the rich storytelling of Uzo Egonu, these images brilliantly display the versatility of lithography.

The prints on display were all made in collaboration with the master printer Alan Cox (1941–2021), who specialised in lithography. Based in East London, he printed the work of major artists for over forty years. He referred to lithography as the “social art” in which “you always work together”.

This exhibition is included with an admission to the House & Galleries.
