Steam Sunday
Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of our working steam traction engine, the Empress of Britain, as our volunteers use steam coal to bring it to life.
Built in 1912 by the Thetford firm of Charles Burrell and Sons, the Empress spent its working life hauling heavy loads and providing power on the farm. Since joining the museum collection, the engine has been used for chaff cutting, threshing and driver training days.
Meet the volunteer team who care for the engine and find out what they’re up to. We’d also love you to share your photos with us on social media.
Please note, this is a weather dependent activity.
Find out more information about visiting the museum on the Food Museum website.
