Painting Flanders. Flemish Art 1880-1914

When: November 21, 2022 to February 26, 2023 Time: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Venue: Gainsborough’s House Address: 46 Gainsborough Street Sudbury Suffolk CO10 2EU Cost: See museum website for details. Suitable for: All ages Event category: Exhibition

The Phoebus Foundation is honoured to host Painting Flanders, the inaugural exhibition in the new exhibition galleries of the recently redeveloped Gainsborough’s House in the market town of Sudbury.

For the first time ever, almost 50 masterpieces from the collection of The Phoebus Foundation will travel to the United Kingdom. Until 26 February 2023 works by James Ensor, Emile Claus, Rik Wouters, Léon Spilliaert, George Minne, and many others will be on display, re-establishing the centuries-old history shared by Suffolk and Flanders.

Painting Flanders. Flemish Art 1880-1914 transports you into the idyllic pastoral landscapes of the Flemish countryside, enabling us to reflect on its historicity and each artist’s expression of escapism from urban life. The Phoebus Foundation is delighted to bring this unique legacy of Flemish art to the United Kingdom for the first time and to offer an exclusive look at some of the greatest works in its outstanding collection.
