Middy in the 1940s

When: May 24, 2026 to May 25, 2026 Time: 10:30 am to 04:30 pm Venue: Middy in the 1940s Address: Cost: Adults £15.00, Children under 16 £8.00, Concessions over 65 £12.00 Suitable for: 5 years plus Event category: Exhibition ,History

Middy in the 1940s brings history alive and makes a great day out for families and enthusiasts alike – an exhibition of how it was in those extraordinary end of war days. Including, of course, steam train rides in veteran Great Eastern Railway coaches. Our resident steam locomotive will be in steam – Peckett & Sons 0-4-0 ST ‘May’ built in 1915.

The celebration will include a wide range of re-enactors including displays of memorabilia and a long list of military and vintage vehicles plus on Sunday 24th May (weather permitting), there will be a flypast by one of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s famous aircraft. There will also be 1940s style live music on both days from Sarah Mai.

This is an entertaining and enjoyable event and you can stay as long as you like and ride the trains as many times as you like.

Steam hauled trains of our genuine Great Eastern Railway carriages will be running from 11.00 on our extended line to the new destination station, Aspall Halt.
Tickets are on sale through Middy website and will also be available on the day at the Ticket Office. Visit Book Tickets – Mid-Suffolk Light Railway Museum page and see how easy it is to get your email tickets and avoid the queues on the day.

Displays will include:

  • The Home Guard
  • WVS “Make Do And Mend”
  • Wide selection of WW2 Era Military and Civilian Clothing for sale
  • Assorted selection of Military Memorabilia for sale
  • Display of Military Vehicles
  • Display of Classic Vehicles
  • BBMF Flypast, Sunday 24th only (subject to weather conditions)
  • Live 1940’s Music with Sarah Mai both days
  • Mendlesham Airfield Association 34th Bomb Group displays
