Heritage Open Days 2026
Venue: The Hold, Suffolk Archives
Explore everyday histories through the rich stories taken from personal diaries in our collections. Go behind-the-scenes and see how we conserve and preserve more than 900 years of Suffolk’s history. Get hands-on with our diary archive showcase and enjoy talks about the personal stories and people behind some of our favourite diary collections. We will be curating a temporary exhibition exploring stories and events that we have discovered in these personal archives. There will also be an opportunity to get creative at our conservator’s drop-in paper marbling sessions where you can try your hand at the ancient Japanese technique of Suminagashi, which translates to “floating ink”. There will be behind-the-scenes tours, some of which include a visit to our conservation studio. These are walking tours with some opportunities to sit during the event, although periods of standing are required at points. Please let us know if you need additional support.
