Classic Japanese cars at the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum
We love it when the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum is able to play host an to another group of enthusiasts, whether it be exotic motorbikes, classic cars or more modern vehicles. So we are very pleased to be able to announce a visit from the Northamptonshire Mazda MX-5 Owners Club who will be having a day out at the Museum on Sunday the 21st of April.
We are expecting about 20 of these classic Japanese cars, with their proud owners and keepers, to be arriving with us from about 11:30 onwards on the day, and we note from their own website (see https://mx5oc.co.uk/areas/northamptonshire/) that they intend to stay until about 3:30pm. It will be good to mix of Japanese engineering in amongst our own classic American and British machines – the nearest we can get to anything Japanese is a hand-cranked air raid siren! With a little sunshine (fingers crossed) the effect of restored aircraft and feisty sportsters together in the same place will be worth plenty of photos.
The Museum site will be fully open as usual from 10am through to 4pm on the day, with all the aircraft, cockpits and equipment displays, the 446th, Air Sea Rescue, the Royal Observer Corps building – newly refurbished and the Bomber Command museum all open and Museum Volunteers on hand to explain the thousands of aviation related items that make up the Museum Collection.
The NAAFI cafe will be open for the serious business of tea (or coffee) and cake, and the shop will be offering a wide range of aviation related goodies to help you make the most of your day. If you really want to go to town on lunch then why not try the Buck Inn situated just outside the Museum gates – give them a ring on 01986 896883 and book your table!
Entrance to the Museum, and parking when you arrive, are all free – but we would really appreciate a donation to help with the never ending maintenance of all the exhibits and to help us keep the Museum growing.
We have aeroplanes on display that date from before the war through to the Canberras, Lightnings, Hunters and Harriers that have seen service in the RAF in more recent times. Across the whole site we have more than 60 aircraft and cockpit sections on display and can often offer access into many of them for photo opportunities. Museum Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and point out some of the features of each aircraft.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead (but not in the shop please, it gets a bit narrow). We are wheelchair friendly with access to all areas – apart from aircraft cockpits.
We look forward to seeing you there…!
