On Monday 13 May, The Imagination Museum holds its first in-person event in Suffolk, at Christchurch Mansion. Here we will explore how dance can engage with heritage sites and collections, developing relationships with new audiences and communities to bring different perspectives on historical collections and uncover untold stories.
Throughout the day The Imagination Museum will be joined by speakers who were instrumental in developing the award-winning Power of Stories exhibition, including Glen Chisholm, community curator, Franstine Jones from Aspire Black Suffolk and Isobel Keith from Colchester and Ipswich Museums; Carrie Washington from arts charity BEEE Creative, and Sarah Lewis and Laura Anderson from Glass House Dance, who will each present case studies on their experiences of working with dance in heritage sites.
A national network for dance and heritage sector professionals, The Imagination Museum was recently relaunched and, with thanks to funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, will be delivering a range of online and in-person events and resources to expand and develop the network over the year and promote opportunities for future collaboration across the country.
With its long track record of supporting excellent dance projects in museums, we are thrilled to be holding the first event in Suffolk, where Ipswich Museum was the site of the original ‘dancing tour guides’ piece that first inspired what has today become The Imagination Museum.
Join us on Monday 13 May from 10am for a day of informative and inspiring sessions as we introduce you to previous dance projects in the area, share our future plans, and provide a space for you to meet local partners and artists to expand your practice and professional network.

The Imagination Museum is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and is currently being managed by Made By Katie Green. In 2024 it is being delivered in Suffolk in partnership with Colchester and Ipswich Museums and DanceEast, with additional support from the Association for Suffolk Museums.
