The Bawdsey Radar Museum team is very pleased to announce that the museum is now a partner in the Great British School Trip Campaign organised and sponsored by Hyundai.
The scheme offers 25,000 young people support with bursaries and free access to hundreds of incredible trip experiences across the UK in 2023. Bawdsey Radar Museum has been selected alongside other prestigious venues that are taking part in the campaign including the RAF Museum in London and the Merseyside Maritime Museum. The museum can now receive visits booked via the Great British School Trip website.
The campaign promotes the educational opportunities offered by Bawdsey Radar Museum, as the birthplace of modern radar, with a range of activities for school groups depending on the age and focus of the group. The museum provides:
- History based activities looking at the significance of Radar and its impact in the Battle of Britain as well as looking at life in Britain during the war.
- STEM-based activities looking at the scientific nature of the discoveries and their lasting impact up to the present day.
- Bespoke tours of the museum to meet more specific needs and museum volunteers visiting schools to deliver talks and assemblies.
- Non-subject specific workshops including a “Spy School”, an introduction to Codes and Cyphers, and a “Mystery Activity” designed around the highly secret nature of the work undertaken at RAF Bawdsey.
You can view the museum’s information on the Great British School Trip website here: https://greatbritishschooltrip.com/event/bawdsey-radar-museum/
The museum reopened for the summer season in April and is now open every Thursday and Sunday and Bank Holidays until October. Further information is provided by the museum on its website at https://www.bawdseyradar.org.uk/
