Reliving the Moment

Suffolk Museums’ reminiscence resources will be featuring throughout the week May 15 – 20 at an Ipswich event aimed at helping people living with dementia to reconnect with  activities, events and experiences.

“Reliving the Moment” is a special Dementia Awareness Week  event being held at Quay Place in Ipswich, the restored and re-imagined St Mary Le Quay church site at Ipswich Waterfront, which was developed in partnership between Suffolk Mind and The Churches Conservation Trust.

A range of activities and props from the past will be on display to stimulate memories and prompt conversations that can help to improve people’s to feelings of well-being, self-worth and confidence.

Two of our Open The Doors reminiscence cabinets will be on show and we will be leading two sessions on  reminiscing with objects Wednesday (11 am and 2 pm).  Among the other displays will be  Suffolk Artlink’s “Suffolk at Play” Cube, which showcases a  countywide inter-generational project that involved a number of our member museums.

Other activities feature poet Dean Parkin and a range of sessions with local charity ActivLives. Music will also play a part, with Heather Edwards from Music Mirrors running a session on how to create a personal memory resource. David Jay from Alpha Films is screening a number of short films reviving memories of days gone by and the East of England Coop will be reviving shopping memories.
