Six Suffolk museums celebrated gaining their national Accreditation certificates at the 2016 AGM

Rich in heritage and history, Suffolk is a wonderful county to explore. Wherever you go, you won’t be far from a museum to enrich your journey of discovery. Each one is full of objects and stories to pique your interest and bring the past alive. Many of Suffolk’s museums are run entirely by volunteers. Opening times vary but some museums may be able to make additional arrangements for group visits. To locate a museum go to our interactive map where you will also find an alphabetical list.

The museums featured on this website are all members of the Association for Suffolk Museums. They work together to preserve and promote the county’s rich and diverse heritage. Suffolk museums warmly welcome visitors and will always do their best to answer research enquiries. The majority receive no public funding and rely on donations to support their work.

The Association for Suffolk Museums is an independent charity and membership body with four main aims:

  • To provide leadership for museums in Suffolk
  • To act as the representative for museums in Suffolk
  • To attract and manage resources for the benefit of its members
  • To increase access and learning in museums for the benefit of the people of Suffolk
